Joel Engineering completed supply and installation of “5000 Litres Jacketed Vessel” for Ayurvedic Medicine Preparation

Joel engineering started 2025 with a promising initiative 5000 litres steam Jacketed vessel.Whether working in steam or thermic fluid, Jacketed vessels are commonly used for heating various compositions in process industry, cooking various preparations in pharmaceutical industries. Generally jacketed vessels are designed and robustly built for life span of 20 years or above. A motorised stirrer is used optionally for agitating the composition while heating process.

Construction

For the given capacity of 5000 litres in gross, vessel was designed slightly narrow in diameter compared to wider common design. Main vessel was constructed in Stainless Steel 304, whereas jacket was done in Mild Steel. Enough reinforcements for the jacket were given all over the jacket. Dual jacket was provided for the flexibility in cooking with the help of isolation valves fitted for operating jackets individually. Location of steam inlets and condensate out ports were carefully selected as per site requirements.

Vessel fabrication was done with expert manpower, in fit-up and welding stages. CNC laser cutting technology was used while material preparation, especially for the jacket side. Certified welders were engaged while welding the vessel shell and jacket shell. A DP test method was used throughout the process for quality assurance. All jackets were hydro tested to meet the design pressure requirement.

Safety

Steam jacketed vessels are generally fitted with inlet valves, condensate out and equipped with safety features like Pressure Gauge, Pressure Relief Valve and Air Relief cocks. All features were provided on the vessel without any compromise.

Installation

As usual, Vessel was installed on raised platform. Mounting brackets were fitted while the construction stage. Jacketed vessels are always provided with thermal insulation on the external surface (Slag wool/Rockwool), this gives the protection to the workmen in the operation side. All insulation surface was cladded with stainless steel sheet in mate finish. Fully welded cladding is also necessary to avoid water ingress into the jacket surface especially in cleaning process, it helps vessel to achieve longer life by reducing the chances of rusting jacket surface.

Fittings

Discharge valve was provided at bottom of vessel and sample port was given at side as per requirement. Clear height requirements were considered at design stage as per the input from customer. A Recirculation pump was also provided for recirculation of preparation to enhance the mixing inside the vessel.

Conclusion

Joel Engineering supplied and installed first unit of 5000 litres Jacketed vessel to their client Kerala Ayurveda Ltd, Athani, Ernakulam.
